November

Happy November!

As we move into the holidays things seem to start coming at us so fast. We have been very busy in Kindergarten and the students are following routines well. Some of the things we will be talking about this month:

Literacy: rhyming words, beginning sounds, blending words (s/a/t sat).
Math: counting to 30, patterning, writing numerals to 10.
Social Studies: Healthy bodies, Native Americans, Thanksgiving.
Writing: oral storytelling, drawing pictures to tell a story (I know, it doesn't even sound like writing, trust me...we're getting there!). We are also working on correct letter formation. Starting every letter at the top. Using the lines and spaces, and always practicing our best writing.

Remember to practice sight words at home. Return the slip when you're child is ready to pass them off. They should be working on list 3 (or higher) by now.

There are several (13) jackets at school. Nobody claims them. If you think you're missing one please remind your child to check the ones in our classroom.

As we move into colder weather make sure your child is dressed appropriately  (including their jacket which may be at school).

Reading folders are due back on Mondays.  Library is on Wednesday. Make sure books are returned by then. Books in a bag (ziplock) are to be read, initialed and returned. They are usually exchanged on Friday mornings.

Reading calendars and skills sheets are due back the first of each month. Remember students can earn a free personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut by meeting the reading goal (15 min. a day, 4 days a week =4 hours a month).

There will be no school Wednesday-Friday, November 21-23. We will be out for Thanksgiving break. School will resume on Monday, November 26.

As I reflect on this time of year and all of my many blessings, I am so grateful for your children. I love spending every day with them. I love their bright eyes, and cheerful smiles, their eager anticipation as they come in excited for school every day. Their enthusiasm is contagious. I learn so much from each of them every day. Thank you for the trust you put in me to care for your most treasured little ones. I am in awe of the responsibility to nurture and raise children in today's society. I am grateful to be part of their lives, and even more blessed to have them as part of mine. Thank you to all of you parents and caregivers that support me and your children as we go through each day. I appreciate you, rely on you, and admire and respect you. I love your children.

Here are some of the fun things from last month. We made a "glyph". The sign tells how it works. The cute final projects follow.

Some frightful and funny Frankies!
Red ribbon week. (I missed pajama day, dang!)

                                                Wear red day.

Some rockin out rock stars.

 Can I say, "hello, 80's"?
 Cool dudes

Crazy hair day

Candy, candy, candy, candy, candy, candy, etc!
Oh my gosh! Thank you for all the pounds of candy you sent in. We sorted, counted, graphed, and ate. (more eating and comparing with friends than actually graphing, but I think they got the idea) You will notice the leftovers coming home on checked homework  for the next while!

I forgot to take pictures of the afternoon activity. Sorry p.m. parents.
